Registrar/Director of Legal Services

Welcome from Lizzie Lockett, Chief Executive Officer

Thank you for your interest in the role of Registrar and Director of Legal Services at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

The RCVS not only has a long history, but a commitment to a bright future for the veterinary professions in the UK.

As a Royal College that regulates, we are unique in our field. This brings great opportunities to make a difference to the UK’s veterinary professionals and animal owners, and to animal health and welfare.

An organisation underpinned by both a Royal Charter and the Veterinary Surgeons Act, we rely on clear, bold and evidence-based legal advice to ensure we make regulatory decisions that are in the public interest. Working with a strong legally-qualified team, you would be offering guidance and advice across the whole organisation, including to our Council.

Within the regulatory community, the RCVS is known for having compassion at its heart and supporting professionals to succeed. We are constantly moving forward and not afraid to take on difficult challenges. Recently this has meant being one of the first veterinary regulators internationally to address veterinary telemedicine and remote prescribing. We are now tackling how to regulate professionals’ use of AI.

We pride ourselves on having a supportive working environment and caring for our people, and as part of the senior leadership team you would be helping to nurture that culture.

Over the coming months, we will move into a new office, have a new customer relationship management system, a new strategic plan, a new website… and a new Registrar. We are all really excited by the opportunities ahead of us, and would love to hear how your leadership and legal expertise can help shape the future of this unique organisation.
